Planning your dreamy, Pinterest-perfect, “hang on the wall and stare at forever” type of engagement photoshoot doesn’t have to be a headache. In fact, it shouldn’t be. Through my time as a photographer, I have learned some tips and tricks to make your shoot go exactly the way you’re hoping it does – and to get those photos you can’t stop staring at!
Involve your photographer in your outfit selection process. Especially if you’re going to a location you’ve never been to! Your photographer knows what colors photograph well, and what colors will complement your location. Picking solids and neutrals are always good options – and wearing pieces that create movement like dresses, flowing tops and jackets.
If you’re wanting that “runaway adventure” feel to your engagement photos, it’s likely that you WILL have to adventure somewhere. I’m not saying you have to go 8 hours away, but be open to traveling a few hours to get to that picture-perfect spot. Your photographer won’t suggest a trip if it isn’t worth it!
Coming into your photoshoot – you’re going to feel nervous I’m sure. Please don’t be! You might feel unprepared to pose yourself but that is what you’re hired your photographer to do. The right photographer will make you feel like the most photogenic couple out there. You can totally do it if you’re open to your photographer’s posing suggestions. No pose is too silly to participate in!
The worst thing ever would be to show up late for your session and also have something planned after. Rushing your photographer to get good shots in a time crunch will result in pictures that aren’t creative, very basic, and way less than what you’re expecting. Give your photographer the time they need by showing up on time and not needing to be done by a certain time. Make a date out of your session and expect to be there a while! Magic takes time and the slower, easier paced you can take a session – the more magic can be captured.
